Bruce Jack Wines

Bruce Jack Wines is a global wine company, named by Drinks International as one of The World`s Most Admired Brands. The competition evaluates wine brands based on criteria such as quality, consistency, innovation, and relevance to their respective regions or wine styles.

Bruce works closely with growers and production partners to nurture unique or old vineyards, making ultra-premium, sometimes one-of-a-kind wines that would otherwise have ended up in large cooperative blends.

Aside from making unique wines that over deliver in quality, the company is involved in ocean revitalization, environmental rejuvenation, and social upliftment through education.

Punti Ferrer Wines was founded by Antonio Punti Ferrer in 1996 with the objective of trading and exporting wines in Chile and abroad.

Bruce met the energetic and passionate team over a decade ago, in 2013. Punti Ferrer Wines is now a production partner of Bruce Jack Wines.

Marlize travels to Chile to work closely with the winemaker and make up the blends from wines made from the diverse geography of Chile. Vineyards are located along a long and narrow stretch in between the Atacama Desert, the Andes Mountain range, and the Pacific Ocean.

The first Bruce Jack wines were blended and bottled in 2019 and the range currently consists of Sauvignon Blanc, Chardonnay, Carménère and Pinot Noir.

Collaboration is the fabric of this wine project, involving a passionate Napa winegrower, Ed Schulz.

This is a wine made from the best, handpicked top quality Coombsville AVA fruit. The result is a shared vision of elegance, complexity, balance and a new style of Napa red winemaking.

The first vintage of the Bruce Jack Heritage “The Epic Journey”, a Cabernet Sauvignon, Malbec and Cabernet Franc blend, was made in 2019 and is currently available in the US, South Africa and the UK.

Jack Family Wines

Pepe Fuster’s estate of 26 hectares of organically farmed vines has been in his family for generations. Over 10 years ago he started making wines with Ed Adams MW and Bruce Jack under the La Báscula label. These 3 long standing friends and partners have embarked on a new, joint project to create a wonderful, complex, ethereal, and delicious red wine from Pepe’s oldest blocks of Carinyena and Garnatxa called 3 x 3. Marlize is involved in the harvest and designing the winemaking protocol.

La Bascula Wines

Trailblazers Bruce and his father David Jack bought Appelsdrift farm in 1999. Located at the foot of the Akkedisberg range in the Overberg of South Africa, the duo planted the first vines in the area for over 100 years.

Today The Drift Estate is a working farm with established vineyards, olive groves, flowers, organic vegetables, and sheep.

A magical place, remote, rugged, with ancient soils consisting of decomposed Table Mountain sandstone and red shale interspersed with clay, limestone and quartz, snuggled under the mountain where fierce ocean winds threaten to uproot any man-made structures.

Farmed sustainably, The Drift makes use of natural insect predators to control pests and does not use any pesticides or herbicides. By leaving unworked corridors to provide natural habitat, the farm is vibrantly alive with wildlife and indigenous fynbos flora.

The Drift Estate winery was built in 2018. Bruce and Marlize are joint winemakers, with Marlize managing the day-to-day cellar work with the team on site, working harvest and traveling to South Africa for blending.

The winery offers high end custom processing services for a number of clients.

Our aim is to produce wines that are delicious and drinkable, maintain a sense of place, generous without being flabby, technically correct but full of life and energy and clearly defined by this special place.

For generations, the Human Family has farmed successfully on the Moddervlei farm, where Black Oystercatcher winery is located. Pioneer Dirk Human is the owner, winemaker, and viticulturist of the estate, planting the first vines in the area in 1998.

Dirk`s knowledge of the land and the cultural history of the area, enabled him to select the best sites for the Sauvignon Blanc and Semillon grapes he grows.

The area is windswept and rugged, soils consisting of broken shale, Quartzite, and Iron Ferricrete (koffieklip), making this the perfect site for cool climate expression of Sauvignon Blanc and Semillon.

The winery is named after the rare Black Oystercatcher birds, which live along the coastline around the ocean.

The farm is situated close to the Moravian Mission town of Elim, at the southern tip of Africa, where the warm Agulhas current of the Indian Ocean meets the cold Benguela current of the Atlantic Ocean.

Bruce and Dirk established a production partnership using the Black Oystercatcher winery facility, with Marlize as consultant winemaker.

Hidden Bench is located on the Beamsville Bench in Ontario and specializes in ultra-premium, organically certified estate wines. They received the prestigious Winery of the Year Award in 2023.

Harald Thiel realized a life-long dream and purchased the Locust Lane-, Rosomel- and Felseck vineyards in the early 2000`s.

With a phenomenal team, all the vineyards were certified organic in 2015. Together, the farms have over 60 individual blocks, some of them planted as far back as 1976. Most of these are vinified separately to show the uniqueness of each parcel.

Marlize was the winemaker at Hidden Bench from 2010 to 2017 and currently consults for the winery through Resolute Wine Works.

Ed Madronich and his family have been firm believers in the terroir of the Twenty Mile Bench.

They realized their dream in 1999 of finding the perfect vineyard and establishing Flat Rock Cellars.

80 acres of vineyards are planted to Pinot Noir, Chardonnay and Riesling with a small parcel of Gewürztraminer, with sites chosen carefully to express the character of these cool climate varieties on the Twenty Mile Bench.

Marlize was the winemaker at the estate from 2005 to 2009 and in a twist of fate, taking the long way home, is now back as consultant winemaker.

Marlize`s late father, Christie van Zyl planted a block of Chenin Blanc on the family farm in the Waaihoek valley in 2006. While most of the vineyards on the farm were destroyed by a fire in 2016, this vineyard survived. The fruit ended up in cooperative blends for years until it was crafted into the wonderful Ghost in the Machine Chenin at The Drift for the first time in 2022. Marlize collaborates closely with her brother, Gerrie van Zyl in managing the vineyard. Grapes are destemmed, berry sorted by hand, cold skin fermented and pressed with a basket press before aging in neutral oak barrels.

In addition, Marlize works with her sister Carla in managing a small block of very rare Clairette Blanche, planted in 1985 by our grandfather, making this into Ghost in the Machine, old vine, skin fermented Clairette Blanche.
